About Chibuikem
"Dr. Chibu" Akamnonu

I am a board certified orthopedic spine surgeon who completed a combined orthopedic and neurosurgical spine fellowship at the world renowned New York University Hospital for Joint Diseases in New York City. I take extreme pride in being able to provide compassionate care to all my patients. This philosophy of care was developed at such a young age as a child watching my two physician parents provide much needed care in Nigeria, West Africa to communities where access to healthcare was lacking. I take great joy in being a surgeon as it allows me to give back and help people during their most difficult times.

I have been blessed to have trained at world renowned institutions with great mentors and leaders in spine surgery such as Thomas Errico MD and Frank Schwab MD who instilled in me phenomenal surgical and clinical skills. I take pride in providing compassionate care for my patients, treating each patient as a unique individual and designing a plan of care that meets their particular expectations in order to ensure excellent outcomes. In most instances, I advocate for conservative non-surgical care but when surgery is required, I am able to utilize my excellent clinical training and more importantly my experience to offer surgical options to rival the care delivered in the top institutions in the country. I am experienced in the most up to date minimally invasive and motion preservation surgical techniques such as artificial cervical and lumbar disc replacements techniques and when appropriate, I offer these services to my patient.
